Choc Chip Shortbread

I always used to make shortbread with my nan when I was little, and it always used to taste amazing. Somehow I’ve never managed to quite recreate the memories of just how good hers tasted fresh out of the oven, maybe it was the added magic of childhood!

However, this recipe tends to work quite well and is really really simple.

Makes about 12-16 shortbreads


  • 20z caster sugar
  • 4oz butter
  • 6oz plain flour
  • 50-100g choc chips, plain white or milk, and dependent on how dense you like the choc chips to be.


  1. Cream together the butter and sugar
  2. Mix through the flour and then choc chips trying not to overwork otherwise end result will be less crumbly.

  3. Bring together the mixture into a ball with you hands

  4. Roll out to about 1cm thick and cut into any shape desired

  5. Put onto baking sheets and bake for about 15-20mins at 180 deg until golden brown

  6. Dust with icing sugar and serve
