Steak Tostadas

A huge fan of Mexican food and street food, I love tacos, burritos, tostadas and everything like that.  Here is my own twist on a tostada, with some of my favourite flavours. A great idea for  a canape, starter or jut a light supper!

Makes 12 tostadas


For the steak

  • 2 good quality rump steaks
  • juice half a lime
  • 2 tsp chipotle paste
  • salt and pepper

For the tostadas

  • 4 large corn tortillas, each made into 3 smaller ones using a cutter, or cutting round a ramekin

For the topping

  • 6 large tomatos, deseeded and diced
  • 1 large red onion, finely sliced
  • large handful coriander, chopped
  • 1 red chilli, deseeded and finely sliced
  • 2 avacados, finely sliced
  • juice half lime
  • salt and pepper

For the garnish (optional)

  • coriander
  • finely sliced radish
  • finely sliced red chilli
  • Wahaca haberno chilli sauce (for extra ooomph!)


  1. Rub the steak in the lime juice, chipotle paste salt and pepper and leave to marinate in the fridge for at least an hour.
  2. Heat about 0.5cm depth sunflower oil in a frying pain until hot. Fry each tostada in the oil for about 20 seconds each side, or until start to go a golden colour and they remove to dry on some kitchen paper. ( You can do 2 or 3 at a time depending on the size of the pan to make it quicker!)



  1. Mix all the ingredients for the topping together in bowl and add the lime juice and seasoning.


  1. Grill or fry the steaks to your liking, depending on the weight of the steaks, medium rare for me and elave to rest for 3-4 mins before thinly slicing.
  • Create your tostadas, some of the topping mix, a few slices steak and garnish as desired!
